Luis 'Lou' Olivera is a District Court judge for the 14th Judicial District, serving Cumberland County, North Carolina. He was first elected in 2012, becoming the first elected Hispanic judge in the state's history. His legal career began as an assistant district attorney in Cumberland County, after which he entered private practice. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Methodist University and Fayetteville Technical Community College. Prior to his legal career, Olivera served in the United States Army for eight years as a Counterintelligence Special Agent. He earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and his J.D. from Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.
