Manuel Almada was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and moved to the United States at the age of seven. He and his family later became naturalized citizens. Before being elected to the bench in 2021, Almada served as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County for eight years. His prior experience includes working as a deputy district attorney in Santa Barbara and prosecuting misdemeanor trials and appeals for the city of Long Beach. He obtained his law degree from Whittier Law School. He won the election for his current seat in the March 3, 2020, primary.
