A longtime resident of Brevard County, he graduated from Merritt Island High School and earned a business management degree from Carson-Newman College, where he also played football. Herman has operated three local businesses—Rays Tire, Triangle Auto & Tire Service, and Triangle Auto & AC Repair—in Merritt Island for over 30 years.
