Maria Jhai was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor Gavin Newsom in May 2025. Prior to her appointment, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California starting in 2019. Her previous experience includes working as an attorney at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP from 2014 to 2019 and holding a temporary position as a Deputy City Attorney for Los Angeles in 2017. She also served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Jhai earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
