Maura Healey

Maura Healey is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 73rd Governor of Massachusetts, an office she has held since January 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as Massachusetts Attorney General from 2015 to 2023. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, and raised in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, she graduated from Harvard College in 1992, where she captained the women's basketball team, played professional basketball in Austria, and then earned a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1998. She worked in private practice and in the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office before her election. In 2022 she became the first woman and first openly LGBTQ person elected governor of Massachusetts. She lives in Arlington, Massachusetts with her partner, Joanna Lydgate.
