Maureen Copelof is the current mayor of Brevard, having served since being elected in 2021. Before becoming mayor, she was a member of the city council for four years. Copelof is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Captain. Her military specialty was in electronic communications. She earned a B.A. in religion and an M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina, as well as an M.S. in political science from Auburn University. She has been actively involved in the community through organizations like the Pisgah Forest Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, NAACP, and AAUW.
