Melanie Chavira is a candidate for Judge of the Superior Court Office No. 82 in Los Angeles County, California — 2026 Primary Election. Running as Democrat.

Melanie Chavira was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in June 2025 to serve as a Judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Prior to her appointment, she was the City Prosecutor for Redondo Beach, a role she held since 2012. She also serves as the City Prosecutor for Hermosa Beach through a contract with Redondo Beach. From 2002 to 2012, Chavira was a Prosecutor and Assistant Supervisor at the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. She also worked as a Trial Advocacy Instructor at the Trial Advocacy Prosecution Program from 2012 to 2024. Chavira earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law. One of her high-profile cases included the prosecution of Lindsay Lohan.
