In his own Ballotpedia Candidate Connection survey he writes that he grew up poor in rural South Dakota, started work as a dishwasher and worked up to kitchen manager, spent four years on a retail floor at K-Mart and Walmart, two years as a Dell field service technician across southern Arizona (Sierra Vista, Benson, Douglas), has owned a comic store and other small businesses, and has worked with computers since 1980 with a focus on AI. He states he takes no donations and has spent under $200 on the campaign.
