Michael J. Silva is a lifelong resident of Newark and the son of Portuguese immigrants. He is a graduate of St. Benedict's Prep and the Newark Police Academy. Silva served for over 25 years in law enforcement, working as a Community Service Detective where he was involved in numerous quality-of-life initiatives. He has been deeply involved in the East Ward community, working with various civic, business, and cultural organizations, and has served on the boards of the Ironbound Community Corporation and the Ironbound BID. He assumed office as the East Ward Council Member on July 1, 2022.
