Mike McGuire is a California State Senator representing District 2, first sworn in on December 1, 2014, and the Democratic nominee for California's 1st Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 general election. Born in Healdsburg, California in 1979, he was elected to the Healdsburg School Board at age 19 in 1998, the Healdsburg City Council in 2004, and the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in 2010, and he earlier worked in radio and television. He served as state Senate majority leader in 2022 and as Senate president pro tempore from February 2024 to November 2025, the first senator from California's northern coast to lead the Senate since 1866. Raised by his single mother and grandmother on a small Sonoma County ranch, he lives with his wife Erika and son Connor in Geyserville.
