Mitchell Silver is an award-winning urban planner with over 40 years of experience. He was elected to the Raleigh City Council for District A in 2024 and assumed office in December 2024. Previously, he served as the Chief Planning Officer for Raleigh, where he led the development of the city's 2030 Comprehensive Plan. From 2014, he served as the Commissioner for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Silver has also been the president of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners. He is currently a Principal at the planning and design firm McAdams.
