Nader Hashim was born in Boston, MA, and grew up traveling the country in a military family. He moved to Vermont in 2011 to begin a career with the Vermont State Police after earning a degree in Political Science & International Relations from Clark University. As a state trooper he served in the Brattleboro and Westminster Barracks and was a member of the Fair & Impartial Policing Committee and the Drug Recognition Expert team. In 2019 he served one term as a state representative (Windham-4) on the Judiciary Committee. He is the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a member of the Senate Education Committee. Outside the legislature he is a practicing attorney with a private law firm focused on criminal, business, and immigration law, and he helped found the Bright Leadership Institute and serves as a vice-president of the Windham NAACP chapter.
