A Pender County native, Olivia Dawson was elected as the first female mayor of Burgaw in 2021. In addition to her mayoral duties, she serves as the Pender County Tourism Director. Her community involvement includes roles as the former coordinator for the North Carolina Blueberry Festival, director of the North Carolina Blueberry Scholarship Pageant, and co-chair of the Pender County Long Term Recovery Group, which was formed after Hurricane Florence.
