Peggy Flanagan is the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota (since 2019) and the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in 2026. Raised by a single mother in St. Louis Park, she grew up relying on Section 8 housing, SNAP, childcare assistance, and Medicaid. She is Ojibwe and an enrolled citizen of the White Earth Nation; her Anishinaabe name means 'speaks in a loud and clear voice woman.' She became the youngest member of the Minneapolis School Board at age 25, later served as executive director of the Children's Defense Fund–Minnesota and co-chaired the Raise the Wage Coalition, was elected to the Minnesota House in 2015, and became Lieutenant Governor in 2019. She lives in St. Louis Park with her husband Tom and daughter Siobhan and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
