Rachelle Smit is the incumbent member of the Michigan House of Representatives for the 43rd district, having assumed office in 2023. She was unanimously elected to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore for the 2025-2026 legislative session. Before her election to the state legislature, Smit served as the Martin Township Clerk for seven years. A lifelong resident of West Michigan, she and her husband are partners in their family dairy farm. She also chairs the House Election Integrity Committee.
