Richard Todd Wyrick was born and raised in Rowan County, graduating from East Rowan High School and later attending Pfeiffer University, where he majored in law enforcement, probation and parole supervision, and sociology. He served for six years in the North Carolina Air National Guard, leaving as a staff sergeant. For 35 years, Wyrick was a Rowan County magistrate, eventually being named the county's first chief magistrate. He was first elected as the Rowan County Clerk of Superior Court in 2022. He is married to Laurie Poole Wyrick.
