Rick Chavez Zbur is the current representative for California's 51st Assembly District, having assumed office on December 5, 2022. Before his election, he was the executive director of Equality California, the largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization in the nation. Zbur has a long history as an environmental lawyer and served for over 20 years on the board of the California League of Conservation Voters (now California Environmental Voters), including six years as its president. He grew up in a farming community in New Mexico and graduated from Yale College and Harvard Law School. Zbur is also an AIDS activist and helped found the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation. He currently serves on the board of Planned Parenthood - Los Angeles.
