Robert "Bob" Brinson is a New Bern native who graduated from New Bern Senior High School and the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He served for 28 years in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military deployments included Somalia, Bosnia, Kuwait, and Japan. He also earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. Before his appointment to the State Senate in 2024, Brinson was elected as a City of New Bern Alderman in 2022 and served as Mayor Pro Tempe in 2023.
