Robert P. Curtin is a resident of Southern Pines who moved to the area in 2005 on a military assignment. He is a former military commander and served as the mayor of Gnjilane, Kosovo, during a United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in 2000. His responsibilities in that role included mentoring deputy mayors, maintaining security, adopting ordinances, and managing the budget for the city of nearly 78,000 people. Locally, he has served on several community boards, including the Southern Pines Elks Pool committee, Boys Scouts of America Troop 223 Badge Committee, and as President of the Sandhills Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
