Shenna Bellows is a Democratic candidate for Governor of Maine in 2026. She currently serves as Maine's 50th Secretary of State, a role she has held since January 2021 as the first woman to do so. Previously, she was a Maine State Senator and the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 2014. Before entering politics, Bellows was a civil rights advocate, executive director for the ACLU of Maine and the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine. She gained national attention for a December 2023 ruling on Donald Trump's primary ballot eligibility. Running to make Maine affordable and protect democracy, her platform includes fostering business growth, enhancing education and housing, lowering resident property taxes, and increasing teacher pay.
