Shevel "Sherry" Hunt came to eastern North Carolina from Indiana while serving in the United States Marine Corps. Following her service, she had a career in healthcare. She was elected to the Craven County Board of Commissioners in November 2022. She serves on several boards, including the Havelock/Craven County Library Board, Hope Mission of Coastal Carolina Board of Directors, and the Military Civilian Community Council.
