General Counsel at Make the Road New York, where she serves on the Executive Team and oversees the organization's legal department — a team of 45+ attorneys and advocates handling high-volume representation, strategic litigation, and legislative reform in housing, government benefits, workplace justice, and immigration. She joined Make the Road in 2015 as Deputy Legal Director and subsequently served as Co-Legal Director and Legal Director. Before that she spent roughly eight years at Bronx Legal Services, including as Director of Public Benefits, representing low-income Bronx families in civil litigation and administrative hearings; she began her legal career there as a Skadden Fellow, founding the Bronx Medical-Legal Advocacy Project in partnership with Montefiore Hospital. In February 2026 the New York Working Families Party nominated her for state comptroller as a placeholder candidate pending the outcome of the Democratic primary; after incumbent Thomas DiNapoli won that primary, Fontaine did not appear on the November 3, 2026 general election ballot.
