Susan Hutson

Susan Hutson is the first female Sheriff of Orleans Parish, sworn into office on May 2, 2022. Before her election, she worked in police oversight and criminal justice reform, serving as the Independent Police Monitor for New Orleans from 2010 to 2021 and as the assistant inspector general for the Los Angeles Police Department from 2007 to 2010. She is the past President of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE). Hutson earned a law degree from Tulane University School of Law and an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
