Thomas Rubinson earned a bachelor's degree from Duke University in 1986 and a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1990. Prior to his election to the bench in 2008, he served as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County for 17 years, where he was a member of the Hardcore Gang squad and tried over 40 murder cases. He later supervised the Preliminary Hearing Unit at the downtown criminal courthouse.
