Timothy Longest was born in Greenville, North Carolina. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013 and a Juris Doctor degree from the UNC School of Law in 2018. Before his election to the legislature, Longest served as a law clerk at the North Carolina Supreme Court and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He currently practices as a consumer protection attorney in Raleigh. He assumed office as the representative for District 34 on January 1, 2023.
