Troy D. Smith, born in Tennessee's Upper Cumberland region in 1968, is a distinguished historian, author, and Professor of History at Tennessee Tech University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and specializes in Native American, environmental, and Appalachian history. An accomplished author, he's won the Spur Award multiple times for his western works. Smith currently serves as the Executive Committeeman for District 15 on the Tennessee Democratic Party's Executive Committee, a role he has held for three years. He has publicly addressed internal party affairs, sharing his perspective on the committee's decision to remove the former Treasurer. Smith is seeking to continue his involvement in party leadership.
