Vontasha Romechia Simms is a Democratic candidate running for President of the Charles County Board of Commissioners in Maryland. A resident of Waldorf, Simms has served as a member of the Charles County Democratic Central Committee. She is an environmental justice activist who has advocated against fossil fuel infrastructure and pipelines in Southern Maryland to protect the region's waterways. Simms also became an advocate for mental health reform following the tragic death of her grandson in 2015, pushing for legislative changes. Previously, she ran for the Maryland State Senate representing District 28 in 2022.
