Barbara Foushee

Barbara Foushee is the current and first Black woman to serve as Mayor of Carrboro, elected in November 2023 after serving on the Town Council since 2017. Professionally, she works as a senior technologist in a molecular oncology laboratory. She earned a bachelor's degree in medical technology from Saint Augustine's University. Foushee has a long history of community service, including roles on Carrboro's Human Services Advisory Board and the Orange Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors. Her husband, Braxton D. Foushee, was the first Black alderman for the Town of Carrboro.
