Ben Ewen-Campen was elected to the Somerville City Council in 2017. He is a molecular biologist at Harvard Medical School. He grew up near Central Square in Cambridge and attended Cambridge Public Schools. He studied biology at Swarthmore College and later attended Harvard University for graduate school in biology. His father is an advocate for affordable housing, and his mother is an educator and artist who co-founded Brickbottom Studios in Somerville. He lives with his wife, Alex, and their two children near Union Square.
