Clayton has resided in Alamance County for approximately 40 years, since attending Elon College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Elon College in 1989 and a Master of Business Administration from Pfeiffer University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and has completed the Administrative Officer's Management Program at NC State University. His career has focused on public safety in North Carolina's Triad region, where he has experience in budgeting, policy development, and building collaborative teams with local, state, and federal agencies. He is a husband and father to a son who is also a law enforcement officer.
