Cathy Abene is the incumbent Park and Recreation Commissioner for District 6, first assuming office on January 3, 2022. In January 2025, she was elected President of the Board of Commissioners. Abene is a public sector civil engineer, bringing technical expertise to her role. She has also represented the Park Board on the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET), which has helped her build strong relationships with the Mayor and City Council. She lives in Minneapolis with her wife and family.
