Charles Abernathy

Charles "Chuck" Abernathy is the Vice Chair of the McDowell County Board of Education, representing the Nebo District. He graduated from McDowell High School in 1978, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982, and completed graduate and post-graduate work at Appalachian State University and the University of Tennessee in Public Management. Abernathy has taught undergraduate classes at ASU and UT, as well as part-time at community colleges. He worked in local government management in McDowell County for over thirty years, focusing on providing quality services, constructing new schools, and completing infrastructure improvements. He has also published or co-published six articles on topics related to local government and economic development.
