He began his career with the Lee County Sheriff's Office in 2002 and has held various positions, including Patrol Deputy, Investigator, and Narcotic Agent, before being appointed Sheriff. He previously served as the Captain of Professional Standards. Estes holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Carolina Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Olive College. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He lives in Lee County with his wife and son.
