D. Scott Smith is an incumbent judge of the Cherokee Circuit of Georgia's Superior Court. Appointed in 2005 by Governor Sonny Perdue, he has been re-elected unopposed multiple times, including in 2022, and is seeking re-election in the general election on May 19, 2026. His legal career began in private law as a junior partner at Akin and Tate before he served as a deputy district attorney in the Cherokee Judicial Circuit. He holds a bachelor of arts from West Georgia College and a J.D. from Georgia State University. Married to Alicia R. Smith, they have two daughters. He has also served as a designated judge for the Supreme Court of Georgia.
