David Fernandez is the current Mayor of Seagrove, North Carolina. He graduated from Whitman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Art. A full-time professional artist since 1980, he specializes in wheel-turned stoneware pottery and is known for developing his own clay and glaze formulas. His work has been featured at major art shows across the country, including at the Lincoln Center in New York City and the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. In 2001, Fernandez moved to North Carolina and later opened Seagrove Stoneware in 2007. He and his wife also run a bed and breakfast and The General Wine and Brew. Prior to being mayor, he served as a Town of Seagrove Commissioner and has been a board member for the Seagrove Area Potters Association, the North Carolina Pottery Center, the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation, and the Piedmont Triad Region Council.
