David Scott was an American politician and businessman who served as the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 13th congressional district from 2003 until his death on April 22, 2026. A Democrat, he was first elected to Congress in 2002, defeating Clay Cox. Before his election to Congress, Scott served as a member of both chambers of the Georgia Legislature and operated a small business. During his time in the U.S. House, he was Chair of the House Agriculture Committee from 2021-2023 and later its Ranking Member from 2023-2025. Scott frequently won re-election by large margins, running unopposed in several general elections.
