Deborah S. Brazil is an incumbent judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, a position she has held since being appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2013. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2020, running unopposed in both elections. Prior to her appointment, she served as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County for 17 years, from 1997 to 2013. During her time as a prosecutor, she worked in several specialized units, including the Major Crimes Division, Hardcore Gang Division, and Family Violence Division. One of her most high-profile cases was as co-prosecutor in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray regarding the death of Michael Jackson. Brazil earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Southwestern Law School. She is also an adjunct professor at Southwestern Law School.
