Douglas Farmer

Douglas Farmer is the current Sheriff of Jackson County, having been elected in November 2022. He began his law enforcement career at the Macon County Sheriff's Office, where he worked for 11 years in various capacities, including as a detention officer and on patrol. He later joined the Highlands Police Department briefly before spending a year in Iraq as a private contractor training local law enforcement agencies. In 2010, Farmer began working for the Sylva Police Department, where he served as a detective and road sergeant until his retirement in 2019. He holds an advanced law enforcement certification.
