Senator Ed Harbison is an incumbent State Senator for Georgia's 15th District, representing Chattahoochee, Macon, Marion, Schley, Talbot, Taylor, and a portion of Muscogee counties. A Democrat first elected in 1992, he is known as the Dean of the Senate. He is a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having received the Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. His legislative achievements include establishing Georgia as a Purple Heart State, creating a Veterans court, and founding the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame, of which he is a member. Harbison serves as Chairman of the State Institutions and Property Committee and Vice Chairman of Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security. He has announced his retirement following the 2026 legislative session.
