Elbert Dwight Lake, who goes by Dwight, is the current mayor of Mayodan. He was selected by the town council to fill the mayor's position in 2024. He returned to the Mayodan Town Council in 2021. His public service includes being elected to the Board of Directors of the North Carolina League of Municipalities in 2009, re-elected in 2024, and appointed to its Executive Committee in 2025. He is a past President of the Madison-Mayodan Jaycees and a past District Director of the North Carolina Jaycees.
