Emily Ackman

Emily Ackman has a background as an educator and policy analyst. She attended Cambridge public schools and was a student representative on the local school committee in high school. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from UMass Amherst. Ackman later received a master's degree in educational leadership and policy from the University of Georgia, where she also trained as a Montessori educator. She has worked as a teacher in New York City, a policy analyst at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and as a Title One and grants director for Framingham Public Schools. She also pursued a PhD and has done consulting work for Scholastic. She was first elected to the Somerville School Committee in 2017 and is currently in her third term.
