Frank M. Tavelman was appointed as a judge to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County by Governor Jerry Brown in 2013 and assumed office in 2014. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County from 1999 to 2013, with an assignment to the Crimes Against Peace Officers Section starting in 2006. Before his career as a prosecutor, he was in-house counsel for the Capital Group Companies Inc. from 1992 to 1998. During that time, he also served as a reserve Los Angeles Police Officer. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors in finance and real estate from California State University, Northridge, and his J.D. from Southwestern Law School.
