Prior to his election, he had a long career with the City of Burlington, serving as the Director of Recreation and Parks for 14 years and then as City Manager from 2002 to 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
