Joanne Kuniansky is a longtime labor organizer and perennial Socialist Workers Party (SWP) candidate. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where as a teenager she took part in the fight for Black rights and school desegregation and protested the Vietnam War; she also campaigned for abortion rights and the Equal Rights Amendment. She joined the SWP in the mid-1970s and moved to New Jersey in 2010, where she lives in West New York. A unionist for decades, her jobs have included oil refinery operator, meat packer, assembly line worker, machine operator, and Walmart deli worker. She has repeatedly run for office on the SWP line: governor of New Jersey in 2021 and 2025, U.S. Senate in 2024, U.S. House in 2022, and New Jersey State Senate in 2023.
