Maria Perez is the incumbent City Councilor for Ward 1, having served since 2021. She is a longtime community activist with over 35 years of service to the Latino community in Springfield. Perez previously served on the Springfield School Committee. For over 40 years, she worked at the New North Citizens Council, most recently as the Chief of Housing Programs. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Service from Springfield College. Perez is a founder of the Puerto Rican Day Parade, the Heritage Association, and the Women on the Vanguard organization.
