Matthew Scott is a candidate for District Attorney District 20 in Robeson County, North Carolina — 2026 Primary Election. Running as Democratic Party.

Matt Scott, a member of the Lumbee Tribe and a native of Pembroke, was sworn in as the Robeson County District Attorney on January 1, 2019. He graduated from Purnell Swett High School, earned a Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University in 1999, a Doctor of Laws from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in 2023. After law school, he joined the U.S. Army as a Judge Advocate and is a combat veteran who served in Iraq, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He continues to serve as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. Before becoming District Attorney, he joined the Robeson County District Attorney's Office in 2010 as an Assistant District Attorney, focusing on narcotic and violent crime prosecutions. He also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, working with the Eastern District of North Carolina's Organized Crime and Drug Task Force. He is married to Jessica Scott, and they have two children.
