Melinda Zimmerman is a lifelong resident of Valdese and a descendant of one of the town's original immigrant families. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1990. In 2021, she retired from Broughton Hospital, where she worked as a staff pharmacist and later as the Director of Pharmacy. She serves on the board of the Waldensian Heritage Foundation and volunteers with various church and community organizations.
