Nik Sandman is a retired fifth-generation farmer and rural mail carrier running as a Libertarian for Nebraska's 1st Congressional District. Born in Stratton and raised on a farm near Wauneta, he farmed wheat, milo, corn and melons for 26 years and carried rural mail for 15 years, and has lived in Lincoln since 2013. He graduated from Wauneta High School in 1967 and holds a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Nebraska. He served on the Wauneta-Palisade School Board in the 1990s and later founded KNNA 97.5 FM "The Cross," a Lutheran radio station in Lincoln. A Lutheran Christian, he is married to Colleen (45 years) with three children, and describes himself as a lifelong Democrat until about two years ago.
