Patrick James "P.J." Connelly was born in Beloit, Wisconsin. He attended East Carolina University (ECU), where he majored in finance and played as a pitcher for the university's baseball team, graduating in 2005. After a professional baseball career with the Los Angeles Angels organization, he returned to Greenville in 2007 and opened a real estate business. His political career began with his election to Greenville's City Council for District 5 in 2015. He was first elected Mayor of Greenville in 2017 and has served since.
