Philip "Phil" Weiser, the incumbent Attorney General of Colorado, is a Democratic candidate for Governor in the 2026 election, announcing his bid on January 2, 2025. He secured 90% of the delegate vote at the Colorado Democratic Party State Assembly, gaining top-line ballot placement for the June 30, 2026 primary against U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. A lawyer and former law professor and dean at the University of Colorado, Weiser also held senior roles at the U.S. Department of Justice and the White House National Economic Council. As Attorney General, he has focused on antitrust enforcement, opioid accountability, and consumer protection, notably challenging the Kroger-Albertsons merger. He is an alumnus of Swarthmore College and NYU School of Law.
